Shooter Detection Systems Launching #TakeAction Campaign at CES 2024
#TakeAction effort, set to debut next month, empowers communities, workplaces to deploy gunshot detection to increase safety.

ROWLEY, Mass. — Gunshot detection solutions provider Shooter Detection Systems (SDS), an Alarm.com (NASDAQ: ALRM) company, will introduce the #TakeAction campaign at CES 2024 in Las Vegas.
The initiative will “empower individuals to make their schools, workplaces, and communities safer by employing lifesaving gunshot detection technology,” according to the company announcement.
“In an active shooter situation, gunshot detection is highly effective at mitigating injury and loss of life but is often overlooked by federal funding sources that traditionally support a wide range of preventative gun violence measures,” the SDS announcement says.
The #TakeAction initiative “aims to educate individuals about gunshot detection’s crucial role in maintaining safe and secure spaces, as well as provide specific tools for consumers to advocate for gunshot detection to their school, government, and workplace leaders,” according to the announcement.
“An average of one death can occur every 10 seconds during an active shooter event. So when a shooting starts, reducing the time it takes for authorities to get to the shooter is the most vital dimension,” says Stephen Carney, president of Shooter Detection Systems, in the company announcement.
“With gunshot detection technology, responders can know immediately that a gun has been fired and in what area of the building the shot occurred,” he says.

The campaign is “also designed to provide people with the resources to personally lobby their place of business or child’s school to deploy gunshot detection technology to create a safer environment that can quickly alert law enforcement in the event of an active shooter incident,” the announcement says.
SDS gunshot technology “enables the communication of critical incident details within 10 seconds to 911 to alert law enforcement as well as to individuals at the scene, using ResponderLink, a software-embedded integration with SDS sister company Noonlight,” according to the company announcement.
SDS software alerts “are intercepted by trained safety agents at Noonlight who provide a live URL dashboard of incident information to the 911 operator, including the push of continuous incident information such as where the latest shots were fired,” the announcement says.
“By combining purpose-built acoustic and infrared sensors with proprietary detection algorithms, SDS’ Active Shooter Intelligence accurately detects, verifies, and validates a gunshot with 99.9% accuracy, and virtually zero false alarms,” according to the SDS announcement.
SDS will be participating in a pair of media events at CES 2024. The first event is CES Unveiled, which is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 7 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center. The second event is Pepcom, slated for Monday, Jan. 8 from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at The Mirage.
