Johnson Controls Releases Metasys 12.0 With Enhanced Security
Johnson Controls’ Metasys 12.0 release features BACnet/SC compliance, MQTT support and next-generation hardware.
MILWAUKEE, Wisc.—Johnson Controls, a developer of sustainable building products, has announced an update to its building automation system (BAS) platform: Metasys 12.0.
The manufacturer says that its new solution provides the foundation for a fully optimized building through its ability to integrate HVAC and non-HVAC under a single platform for high levels of operational efficiency.
“Metasys 12.0 builds on the proven automation and ease of use our customers expect from Metasys,” says Bill Schwebel, vice president and general manager, Global Building Automation Systems and Controls. “Rigorously tested to ensure successful deployments and upgrades, we enhanced Metasys to streamline workflows and optimize user efficiency. We also introduced BACnet/SC compliance, which is an updated industry interoperability standard we helped design, making it simple for customers to stay up-to-date with the latest IT security requirements.”
Johnson Controls explains the new Metasys 12.0 release provides users with fast troubleshooting capabilities, along with the ability to maintain the latest IT security and networking standards, while reducing the time and cost of installation.
Metasys 12.0 Software Features MQTT Support and BACnet/SC Compliance
According to the company, the Metasys 12.0 release improves system security by following the new BACnet Secure Connect (BACnet/SC) interoperability standard for current IT security protocols to help protect communications among Metasys IP components.
The newly announced software’s expanded FIPS 140-2 Level 1 compliance, a U.S. government security standard also helps to ensure Metasys meets current government standards.
Johnson Control points out the software‘s inclusion of the MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT) standard, which is messaging protocol for the Internet of Things (IoT), enables the software to connect remote devices with a small code footprint and minimal network bandwidth.
Through the new Metasys 12.0 platform, users of older versions of the software can update their systems to current levels via features such as the MQTT for seamless communications with today’s IoT applications.
Other features of the new Metasys 12.0 software includes is an expanded line of next-generation equipment controllers with onboard displays and keypads with provisions such as a new remote-mountable display assembly to help facilitate system troubleshooting.
Once installed, the company boasts that new users can learn how to operate basic system functions within five minutes, and Johnson Controls says the Metasys user interface requires 86% less clicks than traditional BAS products to access critical operational elements securely.
In addition, as part of its user interface, Johnson Controls says the Metasys 12.0 software offers customizable dashboards to allow users to focus on specific items such as a space within a building, equipment or users can take specific actions.
