Business Fitness: Take Swift Action on FAST Compensation and Benefits Survey

Talent acquisition in our industry is a challenge. Acquiring quality talent takes some new thinking to better understand what motivates younger talent to join your company.

Salary and opportunities for bonuses have been a benchmark for attracting high quality and motivated new hires. However, those tried-and-true methods are not enough to hire new talent today to fuel your company growth.

Ask yourself if you need to reassess your talent hiring needs. What is the best way to go about that?

Join the Foundation for Advancing Security Talent (FAST) in a jointly funded effort with the Security Industry Association (SIA), PSA Security Network and the Electronic Security Association (ESA) with Vault Consulting providing the independent, trusted, secure data control for a meaningful tool to hire talent. Sound good?

You need to participate in September! We all have heard in life and business “you get what you give.” Time to give a little and participate with a professional survey team.

A new security industry benchmark survey on compensation is underway, with Security Sales & Integration being the exclusive industry media partner. This collaboration is important for systems integrators, manufacturers, suppliers and security dealers.

How You Can Find Better Talent by Taking FAST Survey

A stellar group of industry experts and influencers are volunteering their time to help steer this study. I am part of this group, and strongly encourage you to participate in this survey when invited.

The investment of your time, and it will take a couple of hours with your team, will provide you with great hiring data; and if you are a member of SIA or ESA, you will be provided a comparative, customized report to measure your status against industry peer participants.

That report, if independently contracted, could cost you hundreds or thousands of dollars. The investment of your time would be a solid return on investment. What else?

The key driver for hiring today is telling the story of your company vision and mission. Sounds complicated but it is not if you take a structured and simple approach. An investment in clarifying your vision with a simple process can make all the difference.

You can do it yourself by reading the book “Traction” by Gene Wickman. It is instructional with a simple, effective process. Good read! We use it to accomplish organizational development work with our clients. “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” rings true in this effort.

Gaining good industry metrics for hiring will enable better strategic and tactical planning.

Besides compensation, an attractive work/life/career education and path are key elements for hiring. Give some deeper thought to how you lay out a career path for a starting position.

Frankly, many of your younger hires may have lots of education and no real-world experience. They will expect you to educate them in our industry. A solid investment for the right person. The lesson learned is to take your time hiring to get a person who fits your company culture!

The elephant in the room? Onsite or remote work thanks to COVID-19. Consider when “in office” is necessary and when “work/info/content/communication” delivery can be delivered remotely.

If the work is accomplished around your company/culture standards, do you really care about the “how?” If so, you will be challenged to hire today’s best talent; they want some balance and flexibility.

It will be a challenge! I ask you to invest the time to complete the Vault Consulting/FAST survey. It will yield positive guidelines for your future hiring choices and packages. Trust the process, I do. Your next step?

  • When invited, acknowledge, and accept the survey.
  • Take two-three days and complete as accurately as possible.
  • The more you give, the more you will receive.

JUST DO IT!
